That is awesome. I'm surprised that it's so radioopaque on CXR and that it would germinate and grow given a total abscense of sunglight. You can definitely get balls of fungus growing in the lung in immunocompromised people - but it's never like a whole big fat mushroom. Swallowing something would be a totally different ball game - seeds are designed to be swallowed and passed so no reason to expect germination. You do sometimes see someone aspirate a tooth or other foreign object into the lung, but it just seems crazy that it would successfully implant/grow. I checked the date to make sure it wasn't an April 1st story...

No matter how bad it gets, it could always be worse. You could always have a fir tree growing in your lung! Guess those little buggers don't need much light...
